The Northland Chorale is always looking to add good singers/actors. You don't have to be a professional; if you like to sing and dance, you'll fit right in. If you've being in church choirs for as long as you can remember and are looking to do something different, you'll fit right in. If you've always wanted to feel the excitement of being on stage and performing in front of a live audience, you'll fit right in! You don't have to be a soloist; there are lots of fun challenges in the chorale and small group numbers.
For the audition prepare a song, and bring the sheet music for our accompanist. Attend either the first or second rehearsal in the season (check our website and facebook page for audition notices). Sit in for the rehearsal, and at the end of the evening, the music director and one designated member from each section will stay to hear you. Our music director will ask you to do a couple of vocal exercises to determine your range (for section placement); you may be asked to sing your song or to sing one of the songs we rehearsed that evening with the member who is in your vocal range. After that, you're free to go; the committee will discuss your membership request and get back to you after the audition dates have ended.
The Northland Chorale presents two shows each year (3-6 performances each); typically in May and October or December. These are written and produced by Northland Chorale members on the Production Committee. We generally take the summer months off for R&R. The Northland Chorale also performs at community events and group centers especially during the holiday seasons.
The Northland Chorale show season is a demanding schedule. 14 weeks prior to the performance dates, we begin rehearsing music on Tuesday evenings from 7-9:30 p.m. Seven weeks prior to opening night, we add dance rehearsals on Saturdays for three hours to learn the choreography and show order. The week prior to opening night, we move into the theater (usually DL Parsons in Northglenn) for what we lovingly call "hell week." We generally set up the stage and rehearse on Sunday, rehearse Monday and Tuesday nights, have a semi-dress rehearsal on Wednesday night and a full dress rehearsal on Thursday night. We then open Friday or Saturday evening. It is a demanding schedule, but the end result is worth the effort. The whole process adds up to a professional show that is a lot of fun!
And of course, there are many other activities in which you can be involved. We have several different committees within the Northland Chorale, and you are invited to take part. There are committees for Choreography; Costumes; Membership; Production; Refreshments; and Set Design, Construction and Props. It's all about show business, and the Northland Chorale offers an opportunity for anyone who wants to get involved. This is a great starting point for young and old actors and singers alike, and several of our past members have used the Northland Chorale as a launching board to entertainment industry careers.
